NEW MODEL PROTON AND PERODUA CARS REVIEW & COMPARISION

In the Malaysian automotive competition, local car manufacturers are always trying to create a new model with new advances in design and specifications to meet the needs of their buyers and to be the best-selling model in Malaysia.
Proton Saga BLM, Saga latest version from Proton Car Manufacture which was first introduced in 2008, this model design developed in collaboration with Korea's LG CNS and Lotus Engineering, SAGA's model managed to be the best selling car from Proton while Perodua MYVI is a hatchback model manufactured by Malaysian car Perodua maker since 2005. Based on the second generation Daihatsu Sirion / Boon and Toyota Passo, this model is the result of Perodua's collaboration with both Toyota and Daihatsu. Perodua Myvi is the best selling car for 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 in Malaysia.

Exterior
PRODUA MYVI
To begin with, the Myvi is a rather squarish looking four-door hatchback. This is by no means a bad thing, since the squarish shape does indicate that in practical terms, there is bound to be lots of interior space. At 3,750mm long, the Myvi happens to be a good 175mm longer than its Viva sibling. And with a width of 1,665mm, parking the Myvi should also be a breeze. The Myvi's flared wheel arches dwarf the dainty (but cute looking) 14-inch wheels and tyres - the car could easily accommodate a set of wider and grippier tyres, which would give it a more planted stance. The wide front and rear bumpers with lower lips give the car a more substantial look, but without making the Myvi seem aggressive.

PROTON SAGA BLM
Proton Saga BLM, another car by Malaysian brand, Proton. The new Proton Saga was engineered from the Proton Savvy’s platform, The Proton BLM have a wheelbase of 2465mm, which is 70mm longer than the Proton Savvy’s because of the extended platform. The car is 4257mm long. Width has also been increased to 1680mm not inclusive of wing mirrors, compared to the Perodua Myvi’s 1665mm and the Viva’s 1475mm. Front and rear track is 1446mm, 26mm wider than the Savvy’s.The front features a hexagonal mesh front grille, swept-back headlamps, and prominent lower air intakes on the bumper, while the rear of the car features wraparound crystal cluster lights and a concave boot lid. From the side you can see prominent wheel arches, which give the car a sportier look.

Exterior wise, New saga looks better than myvi at each view because it shows a proper sedan looks. I remember when the new saga launched, everyone gave a good feedback about the exterior design and like amazed that Proton can produce this type of affordable good looking car. While Perodua Myvi like a normal compact car, looks shorter but the front looks bigger like an MPV. The rear part is too big design and not so nice. But the new myvi SE puts some sporty style to the rear part and it looks ok. New saga BLM looks like a little bit small because of it is higher compare to other sedan.

Interior
PERODUA MYVI
The Myvi provides good passenger space with head and legroom being plentiful. The Myvi provides good cabin and boot space. The Myvi’s cabin and boot are also easy to access with space being generous it is easy to slide into the Myvi’s seats. Rear seats provide a 60/40 split and fold system providing even more storage space. Passengers should have plenty of room for comfort on shorter trips. The Myvi boasts a simple interior layout. The Myvi’s controls and dials have a cheap look and feel but seem to be durable enough. The cabin is composed of cheap plastics but the instrumentation is functional and easy to use. The Myvi’s steering wheel and seats adjust for comfort. Most drivers and passengers shouldn’t have any trouble getting comfortable, especially with generous amounts of headroom.

PROTON SAGA BLM
The new Saga is bigger and has ample room for 5 Malaysian adults of average height. The interior is quite simple, but the design quite nice. However, the signal and wiper switch levers are located at opposite directions, just like BMW and Mercedes. The signal switch lever is located at the left hand side of the steering wheel where as the wiper lever switch is located at the right hand side of the steering wheel, a feature proudly derived from German cars 5x the price of a Saga, As the Saga is designed as a city car, the air conditioning system has been made even more powerful and efficient, even at engine idling speeds. The interior also has an entirely new dashboard, door panels and an instrument panel with a digital display consisting of an odometer, a fuel gauge and a temperature gauge. As an attraction for their customers, Proton has added some conveniences accessories into this new Saga such as a cupholders, two in the front and one in the rear, an open storage compartment where the passenger airbag would be expected to be, a glove compartment and also two rear bottle holders, door pockets on each door, seat-back pockets, a 1-DIN storage area below the 1-DIN CD player, and finally a little compartment just below the steering wheel column.

The interior of saga and myvi has not much different. But i personally prefer interior design of Perodua Myvi because you will feel that it is spacious plus the new meter panel with optitron is nice. Center air-cond duct design for saga BLM is kind of weird. The interior is too simple. More to savvy looks. But the meter panel is quite nice. The steering of saga BLM feel better to hold and very firm & looks good compare to myvi. The quality of Proton Saga BLM’s interior is better compare to myvi when you try to scratch them and knock them, you will feel the differences. The gear knob, what I realize is that Proton and Perodua have a different style of holding the gear knob. I would prefer the gear knob of Perodua instead of Proton.

Engine and performance
PERODUA MYVI
The premium model Perodua Myvi comes with a 1.3 DVVT DOHC engine designated the K3-VE which has variable valve timing. This same engine that is used in most 1.3 Daihatsus like the Daihatsu YRV, and of course the Toyota Avanza and the Perodua Kembara DVVT.
Perodua only offers one engine choice in the Myvi, the 1.3-litre petrol engine. The Myvi's DOHC 4-cylinder, 1.3 liter K3-VE engine is capable of 86bhp at 6,000rpm and 116Nm at 3,200 rpm.. Given the car’s size, the manual gearboxed SXi is a surprising performer; reaching 62mph from rest in 11.3 seconds, and on to a top speed of 106mph. There’s a whine coming from the Myvi’s drivetrain at low speeds – a lot like the original Mini – but this becomes less apparent at speed. Owing to its additional cylinder and displacement over the 1 liter powerplant, it also sounds more refined. The extra 26bhp mustered by the Myvi over the Viva is very welcoming, although this performance is somewhat blunted by the extra 145kg of mass carried around by the Myvi. While this might sound like a disadvantage at first, the extra weight does give the car a more planted feel, especially on expressways. The Myvi 1.3 manual is rated at 17.1km per liter of petrol for the manual transmission.

PROTON SAGA BLM
The new Saga is powered by the same 1.3-litre Campro engine (which was co-designed with Lotus) that is fitted to entry-level Gen-2s. Like other Proton models powered by Proton's own Campro engines, the 1.3-liter engine is rated at 94 hp (70 kW; 95 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 120 N·m (89 lb·ft) at 4,000 rpm. The engines feature the new Integrated Air-Fuel Module (IAFM) which varies the airflow into the engine to improve efficiency, smoothening out the problematic dip in the torque curve in the lower and middle rev ranges. The ignition system has also been updated with coil-on-plugs instead of the traditional ignition cable system, eliminating power loss. Compared to the (non-IAFM) 1.3-litre in the Satria Neo, power delivery characteristics are remarkably different. Noticeable torque is produced after 2,500 rpm all the way to peak at 4,000 rpm. The acceleration to highway speeds is good. The 5-speed manual from Aichi Kikai is not geared towards the ultimate refinement at cruising speeds, but it does offer a good spread of torque everywhere, not to mention good overtaking power anywhere from 80-120 km/h. Fuel economy is even better, approximately 6 L/100 km (47 mpg-imp; 39 mpg-US) for the manual transmission.

I like to compare Saga BLM to Perodua Myvi (saga vs myvi) because both are a very close competitor in Malaysia Car Market. The different with myvi engine is, it feels so smooth and the saga is quite rough but feel more power even with many people inside. Azameel has drove a Saga Manual before this and according to him, the engine of manual version of the new saga is more noisy than that auto transmission Saga Blm. And it is true, when I push the paddle hard, I just didn’t realized the car has gone to 135km/hour. It is so stable. Not like myvi at 135km/hour you can feel not secure to drive more than that. It is maybe because of the saga’s heavier power steering and lotus tuned chassis that is more stable. I can’t go more because the test drive path not allowed me to do so. When taking a turn at the round about, the body roll of new saga is less and it is so stable at cornering compare to Perodua Myvi.

Safety
PERODUA MYVI
Occupant safety is a major consideration in the design of all Perodua vehicles and the Myvi is no exception, featuring a newly developed body structure that absorbs impact more effectively from the front, rear and sides to protect occupants. The body shell also features the latest head impact protection technology within its structure. Additional safety is provided by standard fitment of driver and passenger airbags, side impact protection beams built in to the vehicle structure and seatbelt pretensioners to reduce whiplash injury. The Myvi also benefits from the latest electronic ABS/EBD system; ensuring even emergency braking is fully controlled.

PROTON SAGA BLM
The new Proton Saga safety feature was built-in design by Lotus Engineering. This new model uses a MacPherson strut suspension at the front, and a torsion beam suspension at the rear. These suspension bits were based off the Savvy but tweaked to suit the new car. The front has a lower spring rate, while the rear has a higher spring rate to compensate for the heavier boot. There is a front stabilizer bar directly connected to the damper body instead of the lower control arm. Its a Lotus designed torsion beam suspension enables it to turn in sharply and hold its stance through corners without much under-steering and it's one of the safety factors that can prevent the car out of control and crash. Their brakes are 13 inch ventilated discs at the front, and 7 inch drums at the rear. The M-Line has a single driver’s airbag, but none of the line-up has ABS brakes. All models also have central locking, but the N-Line does not have an alarm or remote activation of the central locking.
